Anbaran: Iran global city of kilim-weaving

Anbaran City in the northwestern Iranian province of Ardabil is renowned to be the global city of kilim weaving industry in the country.

Registered as the National City of Kilim, Anbaran in Namin County has the third rank in the kilim weaving sector in Iran.

The city has also gained world recognition owing to the originality and beauty of the kilims woven by the skilled hands of the local residents.

The colorful patterns and motifs of the hand-woven fabrics that caress the eyes of every viewer have been inspired by the seasons and pleasant nature of the region.

As one of the oldest Iranian rugs that have survived from olden times, the texture and designs of Anbaran’s kilim have not significantly changed during the past centuries.  

The kilims woven in the city are exported to several European and Asian countries.  

Kilim rugs are famous for their geometric motifs with a harmony of forms and colors.
